May I suggest a slightly different approach- that sound is the silence we appreciate when all else ceases.
Heidegger said once " language is the house of being"
that is why sound ,for him ,was necessary.
But the silence between sounds generates association.
Commonly referred to as sense ,or meaning.
It is also why disaster capitalism needs MTV.
In Albania , a traffic cop ,who spoke university level english , mentioned that it was only after MTV started being piped into the living rooms of his country ,that the bullets started flying.
Democratic music?
.
Could it be that the sounds made through the right media are the only important ones?
My ideal is to put a little something back into music ,at least classically ,so that anyone can study the string traditions - without over critical fear of failure
Okay this seems far from music ,but what is music ,unless a verbless primal scream??
What is sound except the rule that silence can be misinterpreted??
Such questions led me to look at the gusle ,found in south east europe.A sense of mystery ,almost secretiveness surrounds this instrument.
How coherent is then the music of what this instrument has become ,when the fact remains that it was played all over SE Europe?
Historically every nation that helped free se europe from the ottoman grasp ,told how they did it to their grandchildren ,through the Gusle....
Gusle is an almost prehistoric instrument.
It is the chanting accompanyment that Bardic epic stories have used for thousands of years.

Ethnologic similarities and differences The descent of the Kyrgyz from the autochthonous Siberian population is confirmed on the other hand by the recent genetic studies[2]. Remarkably, 63% of the modern Kyrgyz men share Haplogroup R1a1 (Y-DNA) with Tajiks (64%), Ukrainians (54%), Poles (56%) and even Icelanders (25%). Haplogroup R1a1 (Y-DNA) is believed to be a marker of the Proto-Indo-European language speakers. This might explain the reportedly fair complexion and green or blue eyes of early Kyrgyz.
